Sonja founded H&S Resources Corporation in 2006, which evolved into Akata Global in 2019. These contracts were valued at $750 million and provided engineering and related services to the Mechanical Systems Division and the Applied Engineering & Technology Directorate, as required for the design, development, fabrication, integration, testing, verification, and operation of space flight and ground system hardware and software.
From 1993 to 1996, Sonja worked at Sandia National Laboratories as a Safety Engineer. Her innovations in general safety programs and construction consultation were critical in helping revise the agency's Construction Safety Manual.
